WELCOME, KARLA SHERRY!
We recently welcomed a new member to our team. Karla Sherry joined us in March as executive director. She is a lifelong resident of metro Detroit, with strong personal and business ties to the community. Her contacts are proving invaluable in marshalling resources and support for all the fundraising activities and organizational tasks we have planned for the year.
Maybe you’ve already met Karla at one of our events. She was just a few weeks into the job when our Wild Time at the Detroit Zoo rolled around. Karla threw herself into the planning and execution of this signature fundraiser and was key in helping to make it such a great success. She also jumped in to ensure that our 3rd annual Pink Out at Jimmy John’s Field was fun for everyone.
We want to acknowledge two other staff members who work with Karla and are instrumental to the smooth running of our organization. They are Doreen Murphy, client services coordinator and Stephanie Hellebuyck, gift processor. Thanks, ladies!
It’s been a steep, accelerated learning curve for Karla, but she’s embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, creativity and compassion.
When not deeply immersed in SOPF work, Karla enjoys golf, travel, wine tasting, and cooking. She is very proud of her son who recently moved to NYC and is attending law school, and she loves spending time with her adorable cockapoo Onyx.
Certain characteristics are common to all successful nonprofits – identification of a specific community need; a well-defined mission; financial support; an active, committed volunteer base; and a dedicated group to govern and run the day-to-day operations. We have been fortunate to have all these factors fall into place and to have served breast cancer patients in southeastern Michigan for 15 years.
Our success is due to the unwavering support of all the volunteers, donors, sponsors and individuals and businesses who give so much to help our clients. We are fortunate that there are so many in our community who care deeply about our mission. Welcome Karla!
